Find the average SAT score for your dream school
While it is great to know what the average SAT score is, you’re going to want to look at averages for your specific school. It’s super important to see how you compare to other applicants to colleges you apply to.
For instance, even though a 1300 is well above the national average, a 1350 is well below the average for Ivy League schools. Be sure to check into what other applicants are scoring for your dream school.
On the other side of that, if you score a 1350, your score is well above the average SAT scores for most state schools. Know where your strengths and weaknesses are when it comes to your score.
You can find out the average SAT schools for different colleges by using a site called PrepScholar. Just google “prepscholar (name of school) SAT” to find a school’s profile.
What happens if you don’t get your target score?
If you don’t get the score you want, that doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t get into your dream school.
You can compensate for lower test scores with a higher GPA. Keep in mind that colleges tend to use holistic admissions, meaning that everything is considered when colleges determine whom to accept. They’ll evaluate your transcript, test scores, extracurricular activities, recommendations, application essays, and any other factors that admissions officers deem relevant.
